Zandrite® is a man-made glass that was specially developed by combining rare earth elements such as neodymium, lanthanum, and cerium to create its dramatic color change and color shift properties. It was only after many years of experimentation that Zandrite® came into being. As the purple-green color change variety mimics phenomenal property of extremely rare and expensive alexandrite, late Jewelry Television Co-Founder Jerry Sisk selected the name Zandrite®. The green-pink, blue-purple, and blue-lavender color combinations exhibit 100% color change. The cranberry-magenta stones display color shift. Due to the neodymium content the blue-purple and cranberry variety boast strong magnetism.
