Beyond the Pearly Gates: The Impossible Gems of Heaven

Come along on a treasure hunt in the afterlife as we look into one of the most prominent depictions of heaven. This depiction comes from the book of Revelations when John sees heaven, sometimes called "New Jerusalem." According to John, heaven is primarily made of gemstones, including solid gold streets! Gold was one of the first metals ever discovered; it was very valuable and useful like it is today. A very unique gemstone is used throughout heaven, and it isn't diamond, emerald, ruby, or sapphire. Jasper is the most commonly seen gemstone in heaven; according to John, the walls were made from this material. Often remembered as a prominent gemstone in ancient tribes, there are supposedly many forms of jasper in heaven. The gates to enter heaven are made of a giant pearl, thus quite valuable.
